Human Powered Vehicle Operators of Ottawa events from 2004

• November 27th, 2004: 17:00: Carleton Place Santa Claus parade: Peter Tyler and Steve Tosh invited us to join the Beckwith Bike shop folks. There were 5 of us, 2 from Almonte, at least 4 from Carleton Place and a half dozen mountain biking teens. It was a little dark and cold, so Richard took very few photos .

• Saturday November 20, 2004: HPVOoO entered the Kanata Santa Claus Parade. Vic took pics .

• Saturday November 20, 2004: HPVOoO vehicle used as support vehicle with a mobile PA sound system to support a peace rally on Parliament Hill. RGB took pics .

• November 13, 2004, 11:00: We won the Best Novelty prize in the Ottawa Help Sanda Toy Parade organized by the Ottawa Firefighers. HPVOoO has had entries in 2002 and 2003 as well. Brian Wheeler took a few photos . Vic took pics . Brent from Waterloo also took some photos . ...and here are Mark's pics! . Hey, check this out, so did Jenn !

• Sunday 31st: 2nd annual HPVOoO Hallowe'en ride: This year we rode around Percy/Gladstone area, then went back to the Haunted House at Percy/Powell and a bit around the Glebe. After pizza at Richard's, we went out looking for pubbers to entertain. Vic took photos . So did Richard... .

• HPVOoO'ers Vic, Mike, Harvey, Jason and Mark did a ride up to Champlain Lookout. Vic took pics.

• September 22, 2004: Car-Free day, Ottawa: Sounds like it wasn't so car-free... Juergen took photos . A quote from Juergen: '...saw a bunch of people wearing Hydro Shirts. Emblazoned on the front was something like "Powered by People" or something equally HPV oriented. I thought they were marching to support HPVOoO...'

• September 18th, 2004, moving a packed Hammond organ and Leslie speaker

• August 29th, 10:00: HPVOoO parade, "Let's go to the Beach!" started at ARMPIT central (192 Cambridge Street North), headed down Christie to Mark's place to pick up a canoe, then down Bell, Rochester, Elm, Preston, Albert/Scott, Bayview, then onto the Western Parkway at the Lemieux Island access. The parkway wasn't closed for Alcatel Sunday BikeDays until Island Park Drive, but we had no problems in the right lane. We headed out to the Ottawa Folk Festival at Britannia Park via the Carling turnoff, then into Grant's for a fabulous lunch. A number of us volunteered with CfSC to help with bike parking. We met at 09:00 to start decorating. Vic Gedris took photos, along with Richard Guy Briggs, Mark Rehder, Jenn Farr, Charles Akben-Marchand.

• August 20, 21, 22: BentRiderOnLine New York state event. Vic Gedris took photos on the Friday , Saturday and Sunday . Dennis Hutton , John Foltz and Jason also took photos and wrote up his account. There was some online discussion about the event.

• August 14th: Re-Cycles Picnic. Richard's photos .

• August 8th: CfSC 20th anniversary picnic. There were quite a number of interesting HPVs that showed up somewhat unexpectedly. Richard's photos. Vic also took photos.

• July 25th, 2004: The 6th Hacker Bike Ride took place the Sunday after the Ottawa Linux Symposium. Vic took photos. Richard took photos. Hugh Blemings also took photos.

• 2004/07/11:
  July 11th, 2004, noon: We won first prize in this year's Ottawa Pride parade! That's the second award we have earned. Here is the parade route map. Richard took a few photos before and after the parade, but was too busy managing chain mail on a chopper to take any during... Trevyn's friend Andrew also took photos (His full set are here.) Jenn Farr took some awesome pics too! Set 1, Set 2. There was also an appearance by the city of Gatineau's VeloBus. Some photos by Pat Croteau were also found.

• Weekend of June 4-6, 2004:
  • Un Tour la Nuit: Friday, June 4, 2004 (map). We were hoping to have the Fat Tuesday Brass Band joining us, but the event had last minute unexpected expenses and cancelled our gig. :(

  Several HPVOoO members (Vic, Jason, Richard, Carole, Nicolas, and also reports of Greg Furlong) attended the Tour de l'Ile weekend, part of the Montreal Bike Fest. Vic took photos of the Friday night ride , Saturday mucking around and Sunday big ride . Richard took photos of the Saturday mucking around and Sunday big ride . • Sunday May 2nd or 9th, 2004: Le tour Nortel Networks, (613) 765-8687, benefit for CHEO.

• April 22nd, 2004: 10:00-14:00: International Earth Day Exhibits on Sparks Street Mall. Mark Rehder took photos.

• April 17th, 2004: 09:30-18:00: EcoForum at Billings Bridge Plaza (call for exhibitors). This event included a kids' wind turbine competition. Vic and Richard both took some photos.

• March 21th: Bob Conrad joins us for pho. He's planning to build a GTT from plans.

• March 13 2004, 11:00: The Irish Society St. Patrick Day Parade. At least 2 dozen people came and joined us on their weird human powered contraptions decked out in green. The parade started at Elgin/Laurier and finished at Lansdowne Park. Vic , Richard , Lorna Hutton and Juergen took photos. Announcement , Rules
